IPDAS is a client/server application and links to a MSĀ® SQL Server database using ODBC (with the database calls written using ADO). None of the tools that we use to build IPDAS are proprietary or obsolete.
Below are the minimum technical requirements necessary to support IPDAS in your organization.
Supported Server Operating Systems:
- Windows 2008
- Windows 2003
- Windows 2000
- 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems
SQL Server Requirements & Supported SQL Server Versions:
- SQL Server 2008 R2 (x64)
- SQL Server 2008 (x64 or x86)
- SQL Server 2005 (x64 or x86)
- SQL Server 2000
For a large firm (approximately 100 attorneys), we recommend a 64-bit version of SQL Server with 8 GB of RAM. IPDAS performance is more sensitive to RAM levels in the SQL Server than to processor speed, although both can help.
The IPDAS database will typically occupy 1-5 GB of disk space (excluding back-ups) for a large firm.
Supported Client Operating Systems:
- Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Windows Vista
- Windows XP
- Windows 2000
Supported Microsoft Word Versions:
- MS Word 2007 (32-bit)
- IPDAS creates documents slower under Office 2007, so we recommend faster hardware.
- MS Word XP
- MS Word 2003
- MS Word 2000
Note - MS Office 2010 (32-bit) is nearing the end of successful beta tests with multiple firms.
Supported Document Management Systems:
- Autonomy (iManage) DeskSite (incl. FileSite)
- Autonomy (iManage) WorkSite (incl. FileSite)
- Open Text Docs Open
- Open Text eDOCS DM
- Worldox
Supported Browsers:
- Internet Explorer (versions 6-9)
- IPDAS Web Reports supports Mozilla Firefox as well
We support all versions of Adobe Acrobat and Reader supported by the USPTO.
We recommend that user workstations not running Windows 7 or Windows Vista have 2 GB of RAM, although IPDAS can function with far less.
